The Foundation Course is an English language program designed to prepare international students for study at Italian universities. It is aimed at those who:
- Have a high school diploma but do not have the 12 years of schooling required for admission to Italian universities and/or do not have the formal qualifications required for enrollment in a university in their own country and in Italy.
- Wish to improve their educational and language skills, despite having 12 years of schooling.
Applications for the academic year 2024/2025 will open on 03/04/2024 and will close on 20/09/2024.
STUDY PATHS
The Foundation Course is a one-year academic program that offers two different study paths:
Each study path consists of a total of 60 equivalent ECTS credits.
- 20 credits for Italian language
- 10 credits for English language
Note: Students with an official certification issued by accredited bodies demonstrating proficiency in Italian and English at a level equivalent to B2 or higher may be eligible for recognition of these credits .)
- 30 credits for the subjects included in the study paths
Once chosen, the path cannot be modified.
REQUIREMENTS AND MANDATORY DOCUMENTATION
To be eligible for admission to the Foundation Course, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Final secondary school diploma
- English language proficiency: provide an English language certificate of at least B1 level issued by an accredited body (https://piattaformaenticert.pubblica.istruzione.it/pocl-piattaforma-enti-cert-web/elenco-enti-accreditati)
*PLEASE NOTE: English language certificates different from the ones mentioned in the previous link ARE NOT ACCEPTED. For example: duolingo, british council...
Students are not eligible to apply if they have received a partial higher education within their school system, for example: If they have only completed 11 years of schooling in a system that requires 12 or 13 years in total. Incomplete applications will be rejected after 20/09/2024.

FEES
Once the registration fee has been paid (46 euros), the International Students Office will make the necessary verifications.
In case of a positive assessment, the applicant will be asked to pay three installments:

Please note that in order to finalize enrollment and be able to access the online classes scheduled for the first semester, it is mandatory to have paid the first two installments (non-refundable fees).
IMPORTANT: applicants who do not make payments by the due dates will be automatically excluded.
VISA APPLICATION PROCEDURE
Non-EU students residing abroad must submit their pre-enrollment via the Universitaly portal https://www.universitaly.it/
Prospective students must correctly enter their personal information as per their passport (it is important that there are no differences, as this information will be sent directly to the Embassy for visa issuance) and select:
- Academic year 2024/25
- Tor Vergata University of Rome
- Foundation Course
- Embassy/Consulate that will issue the entry VISA for Italy.
What to upload on the pre-application?
- Copy of your passport
- Any English or Italian language proficiency certificates
- Admission letter
- All the documentation requested during the admission process
ORGANIZATION OF THE CLASSES
Attendance of all classes, both online and in-person, is mandatory and will be monitored by the IaD School professors.
Each module will end with a final exam. Only students who have attended at least 70% of the classes will be eligible to take the exam.
CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION
Students who pass all of the final examinations expected by their chosen training path will be granted:
- The minimum entry requirements for three-year and single-cycle degree courses
- Exemption from the placement tests required for admission to the courses held at Tor Vergata University of Rome. However, students applying for admission-restricted degree programs will still be required to take the admission test.
- The certificate of completion of the Foundation Course.. Partial certificates will not be issued in any way for attendance of lessons and/or passing of individual exams.
UNDERAGE APPLICANTS
Students who have not reached the age of 18 by July 31st 2024, but were born on or before July 31st 2007, may participate in the Foundation Course.
In this case, parents of underage students are required to:
- Present a consent form for admission to the program
- Appoint a legal tutor residing in Italy for the duration of the Foundation Course until the student reaches the age of majority
- Submit a power of attorney to apply for a fiscal code on behalf of the student
- Attach a copy of the parents’ ID
- Attach a copy of the tutor’s ID
Note: All documents must be original copies signed and stamped by the competent authorities and must be officially translated into Italian.
